OPAL

As part of Age Concern Hampshire your role as OPAL volunteer will be to link older people to activities, groups and services in their area.

Your role is

  • To receive referrals from the Opal Coordinator for clients who require local information on activities, groups and services via a home visit. (These referrals will be within an area agreed at your induction.)
  • To try and arrange a visit as soon as possible and ensure the OPAL Co-ordinator is informed of visit details.
  • To keep up to date with local information.To be active in passing on details of any new services in your area to the Co-ordinator.
  • To promote the Opal service and other Age Concern Hampshire services by distributing leaflets and attending events in your local community.
  • To ensure that all visits are carried out safely in line with the Lone Working and Health and Safety policies. (Please ensure your ID is visible on every visit). To ensure confidentiality and the safe keeping of records as per OPAL policies and procedures.Details of the Volunteers Policy and others are in the Handbook available from Head Office.
  • To accurately complete all paperwork and send to the OPAL Co-ordinator and ensure a copy of the Client Record Sheet has been left with the client.
  • To contact the OPAL Co –ordinator or County Manager if there is a problem and/or if the visit has not resolved the older person’s problems.
  • To claim out of pocket expenses (ie travel) on the form provided.
  • To ultilise the wealth of information, knowledge and experience available from the Age Concern Hampshire Information and Advice Team freephone: 0800 328 7154 to support your client visit.
  • To attend regular training, meetings and support sessions.

Our commitment to you, the Opal Volunteer:

  • We will provide ongoing support through Age Concern Hampshire’s Information & Advice Team
  • We will ensure that appropriate training is provided at regular intervals that is relevant to the Opal Volunteer role.
  • We will provide feedback as and when required regarding visits and paperwork.
  • We will aim to keep all Opal Volunteers abreast of common issues relevant to Older People in Hampshire through a regular Opal newsletter and the Age Concern Hampshire website.
  • We will provide ongoing promotion and publicity for Opal through various avenues and events.
  • We will ensure to the best of our ability that all Opal volunteers feel valued and supported
