An exciting opportunity to join a local independent Charity which is committed to promoting independent living to over-50s. We provide day care and wellbeing services, information and advice, to over 58,000 people each year ensuring that older people, their carers and families achieve the very best quality of life.

We are now seeking an experienced and qualified Finance Officer to assist with maintaining complete and reliable accounting records in line with established procedures. The Finance Officer will also be involved in preparing management and financial reports to help support management decision making and inform business strategy. This role is maternity cover so will be a fixed term contract of 3 months.

Finance Officer Key Responsibilities:

Financial Information and monitoring

Processing financial transactions relating to the Purchase and Sales ledgers for the Charity. Reconciling creditors ledgers and following up on open items.

Assisting where needed in processing bank transactions, petty cash and transfers and regularly reconciling all bank and cash accounts.

Providing help and advice where appropriate to budget holders on all finance & accounting related matters.

Assisting with timely production and distribution of monthly management reports to budget holders.

Assisting with preparing financial reports and information the Head of Finance.

Assisting with monitoring income and expenditure activity across the business divisions by periodic checks and reconciliations of nominal ledgers.

Financial Planning & Budgeting

Assisting in the annual planning and budgeting process including preparing budgets and forecasts.

Provide financial information to the Head of Finance from time to time.

Related Duties

Reconciling account and general ledgers, journals and corrections.

Assisting with internal and external audit exercises.

Finance Officer Requirements:

Formal book-keeping qualification AAT or equivalent (or studying towards)

Minimum of 1 year experience working with both Sales and Purchase ledgers including reconciliation

Minimum of 1 year experience of banking transactions and reconciliation

Experienced user of Xero or similar software

IT literate with sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Explorer

Excellent analytical skills and attention to accuracy and detail

A methodical approach supported by good communication skills

You must also be able to work well as part of a team and have the ability to cope and prioritise a demanding workload, often working under pressure and to strict deadlines. A positive ‘can-do’ and adaptable attitude and with a “hands-on” approach is essential for this role. You will need to be adaptable and able to work on your own initiative.
