Information & Advice
Our Information & Advice Service provides over-50s with information on everything from benefits and housing to day care at our Wellbeing Centres and personal care at home.
The service, which is run by highly-trained volunteers, is free, impartial and confidential and is accredited by Advice Quality Standard assessors. It has been highly praised for the dedication and quality of its advisors and is available from Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm on Freephone 0800 328 7154. Age Concern Hampshire has 6 activity centres for older people in various parts of the Basingstoke & Deane area, which are a great place to meet new people, take part in weekly activities such as quizzes, bingo, chair exercises, New Age Kurling and other activities, or simply just to share a cup of tea with friends and chat. Our centres can be found in the following areas: Popley, South Ham, Oakridge, Winklebury, Kingsclere and Overton.
In the Basingstoke area, we engage the services of professional and qualified chiropodists/podiatrists to offer low-cost toenail cutting and to provide a basic foot health check. We have 22 clinics in various locations which run six weekly. Appointments are charged at £16.
Foot Clinics are held in the following areas: Basingstoke Town Centre, Brighton Hill, Oakley, Old Basing, Oakridge, Popley, South Ham, Winklebury and Odiham.
With its friendly welcome and relaxed atmosphere, Age Concern Hampshire’s Community Café at Church Cottage behind St Michael’s Church, is an ideal place to enjoy a cuppa or early lunch, away from the hustle and bustle of the shops.
The café offers simple food at reasonable prices including hot and cold drinks, toasted teacakes, scones, hot soup and toasted sandwiches.
Our Information & Advice Outreach Co-ordinator is at the café for drop-in enquiries on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
An information table is available each week with details of our local services and events for older people as well as those provided by other organisations.
New customers are always welcome and our Tea & Company volunteers ensure that nobody ever sits on their own for long.
Age Concern Hampshire’s Community Café is open every Wednesday from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Church Cottage behind St Michael’s Church in Basingstoke. Last food order is at 12.00pm. (The church is opposite the slope beside Marks & Spencer). Please note that there is no parking on the site but plenty available nearby. For more information call 01256 423874.
Exercise classes and yoga
Evergreen Exercise takes place each Tuesday morning at Church Cottage behind St Michael’s Church in Basingstoke and offers a class which is tailored to the individual's needs and abilities.
As well as our Hatha Yoga classes on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning (term-time) yoga classes, there is also a Sage Yoga, every Monday at Church Cottage. To find out more or to register your interest in joining a class call 01256 423874.
