Age Concern Hampshire’s Village Agent Service was set up in 2011 and is delivered by over 50 highly-trained volunteer Village Agents across Hampshire, supported by Age Concern's accredited Information and Advice team in Winchester. Their primary role is to support older people to live full and independent lives in their own homes for as long as possible.
The scheme supports older people in rural areas, assisting them to access information and the support services they need. As an active member of their local community a Village Agent directs people to the information about such things as day care, foot care, computer training, transport for shopping and medical appointments, finding reputable tradespeople and help around the home. Their work, although often intangible, can make an enormous difference to those they support, maximising the period in which they can live independently in their own homes.Last year we dealt with nearly 2000 enquiries across the county.
