Census 2021 Community Partner

The voices of older people in our community matter...

We are proud to be a Community Partner / Census Champion for the 2021 Census.

Now that the Census 2021 data collection operation is closed, we’d like to thank all those involved in providing information for your contribution. We’re delighted by the level of support we’ve received.

Our support in the lead-up to Census 2021 and around ‘Census Day’ has helped boost response rates for the National Survey. We played our part to ensure older people have their say, and our work is supporting this group plays a crucial part in the picture.

Information from the census

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) call the anonymised census information and release “outputs” in spring 2022.

The ONS team is looking into the best way to bring information collected during Census 2021 to a wide audience. You can learn more about the progress and development of the Census 2021 outputs and register for our email updates.

COVID19 (Coronavirus)

Update Thursday 19th March 2020

As we are all aware, the Coronavirus pandemic is putting older people most at risk with many advised to self-isolate and socially distance themselves. Our Care and Wellbeing Centres and services will temporarily close as of Friday 20th March 2020 to protect the health and safety of clients and carers as well as our staff and volunteers.

We recognise these precautions will inevitably cause involuntary isolation and loneliness for those we support. Similarly, unpaid carers will be put under immense pressure to support the ‘cared for’ alone without access to respite or additional help as it may bring risk of contamination.  We aim to continue to protect these vulnerable people as well as any other elderly persons in the community that may be feeling lonely during the outbreak. Our trained staff  are here to alleviate feelings of seclusion while ensuring the health and well-being of the elderly in need. Services will include ‘Phone Support’ for  ‘Wellbeing Check-ins’ as well as a ‘Door Step’ service for things such as shopping drops offs and meal deliveries to ensure these people have access to nutritional meals and supplies. Finally, we will offer ‘In Home Services’ for people requiring domestic help.

We have officially launched our Emergency Appeal, calling on the public to donate funds towards our efforts to offer support that will alleviate the impact of COVID19 on those most at risk. Donations will go towards whatever is needed to alleviate pressures through the roll out of the response plan.

12 Days of Age Concern Hampshire – Christmas Campaign

We celebrated our service providers for 12 Days this Christmas!

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” —Mother Teresa

From Friday 20th December 2019 we have shown our gratitude to our service providing colleagues across 12 days. We asked our clients and their carers to contribute ‘Words of Kindness’ for those who benefit from their hard work. We called upon the people that benefit from the services provided by the incredible Age Concern Hampshire Team. Carers, Clients, Colleagues, Volunteers and the public were asked for their feedback on ‘how ACH helps them? – Their words contributed to the campaign to reiterate just how much their compassion, care and handwork is appreciated. Our centres and services provide support with care for older people as well as respite for those who benefit from a much-needed break from their responsibilities knowing their loved one is in the care and companionship of a trained member of staff

Some of their feedback:

J.B – Son  and primary carer to B.B (Client):

“Mum and Dad were married for nearly 50 years. Dad died in February 2018 leaving a massive void in all of our lives, especially mums’. Due to health reasons we decided, pretty quickly that the best solution to care for mum would be to sell both properties and move into one house together. Jane has two grand-children of 10 and 8 who love having ‘Mormor’ living with them. Obviously with young children, life is pretty busy so sometimes mum get left in her own company. Finding the centre was fantastic and for mum (although a little hesitant at first as she can be quite shy at times). Jane was made to feel very welcome and week by week mums confidence has grown and she made some lovely friends.

** Oh and the Sausage Casserole is a great hit!!”

Centre Volunteer

”I think the Day Centre has helped me tremendously.  It helps me to get out and I enjoy meeting new people and I hope to continue as long as I can.”

Daughter and Carer to  D.B (Client)

Just a few lines to let you know how very grateful I am to you and all your staff at the Gosport Day Care Centre for the care and kindness you have shown my mum, Dot, since she started coming along a couple of months ago. Today she went to the Christmas party and had such a lovely time, she was chatting about it all the way home in the car. Going to the centre is a highlight of her week, she loves the company, the games and activities and the lunches, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming from the moment she arrives. Thank you for all the hard work you put in every week to give the guests a lovely time, especially today at the party which was brilliant – you really do go the extra mile!

Carer / Wife of Husband

ACH has brought a little joy to me over the past year. Before my husband started attending the centre I was feeling very stressed because of the pressure. I now have two days rest to recharge which has been invaluable.

"I enjoy coming to the Centre because of the friendship and everybody is so kind. I feel if I wanted some help or to talk to someone you are all there for me. I look forward to the days I come in as it gives me a change from being on my own. My family cannot be there for me all the time and you are like my second family... I cannot thank you enough."
